Eragon Book Review

by Christopher Paolini

Review by: Malachi Westbrook

Eragon is a YA Fantasy novel filled with adventure. This book follows Eragon, a boy who finds a sapphire stone in the woods, that turns out is maybe not just a regular stone. Read along as a boy and his dragon travel across the empire.

I chose this book to be a part of the Judge a Book podcast. This has been a favorite of many for a long time and has long since been on my TBR. I thought this was an okay read and think it was done well for younger readers. It seems many aspects have been taken from other books and felt slow at times. This is book one of a four book series. My Likes: - Saphira! She had a lot of sass and was a great addition to the book.

-The idea/concept of the book

- The author wrote this at the young age of 16!

My Dislikes: - I found there were too many “Fate” elements. A lot of luck and chance that made it less believable.

-Eragon. Not my favorite main character.

Overall, I thought this book was okay. I would recommend this book to younger readers. I landed at a three-star rating because of the many times fate or luck was involved in problem solving, an unlikable main character, and the many similarities to other books. I do think it is a great introduction to fantasy though but one that may fall flat for those who have spent more time in the genre. I personally do not plan to continue to read the series at this time, but may pick it up in the future!

Rating: 3/5 Stars
